OTHER SO-CALLED "SOLUTIONS"
TO CONTAMINATED INSIDE AIR...

Can't Solve The Basic Problem
Of Trapped-In Air!

According to the California Air Resources Board --
"Air cleaning devices alone cannot adequately remove
indoor pollutants from homes."
(Nor can "sanitizing" steps -- like just cleaning out air ducts!)

Here's The Problem!

A Legislative Study reports that there are "more than
1,500 indoor air pollutants that pose potential hazards
to public health".

The sheer range of harmful substances in inside air makes it virtually impossible to effectively "clean" inside air, to turn it back into something resembling the substance and quality of real "fresh air".

For example, air cleaning devices do not re-charge inside air with life-essential oxygen, to avoid oxygen depletion and the harmful effects thereof. But such facts are not mentioned since everyone wants to get in on the "clean air" sales wagon, and especially those with disposable resale items like filters which usually have to be purchased or serviced continuously by you to retain usefulness. There are also the usual "gadgets" galore that have sprung up, claiming the ability to clean your interior air.

Having clean and complete breathing air in your home is not difficult, if you do it in the most logical and practical way, using Nature's air. The Natural Air System replaces stale and stagnant inside air with fresh air from Mother Nature herself ... the expert who cleans and revitalize the air in a way no artificial device can.

To effectively "change your air" -- to "air"
it out" inside -- you have to bring in 100%
fresh air
that is distributed throughout
your place forcefully and in volume.

Think about it this way. When you have a sink or tub of used water, do you try to "clean it" with filters or whatever... so you can drink or cook with it? Not likely. You flush it down the drain and out of your place... and use fresh water. So why should you have to try to clean up your used air? Why not fresh air?

No filter for instance, can replace the life-sustaining oxygen in air that has already been used up... by people and in other ways.

Let's take a look at products claiming to clean your air...

Filters

"You can't 'filter' your way out of this...!"

Filters are useful for removing the larger substances from air, like dirt and pollen. The Natural Air System utilizes filters to screen the incoming outside air for that very purpose. The main problem with filters comes down to eliminating the very small but dangerous stuff, like the germs, spores, and gases that build up in the air inside the home. The only effective and practical way to eliminate this range of inside toxic substances is to flush them out with forceful injections of fresh outdoor air.

According to studies by Wythenshawe Hospital in
Manchester, England, researchers reported that...
"Honsiger says that much-hyped HEPA filters,
which were originally designed to collect asbestos
during industrial cleaning, are porous enough to
allow the tiny allergen particles through."

Filters have a basic problem in that to screen out more bad stuff, better, the "holes" in the filter have to get smaller and smaller (measured in microns)... which means the flow of air through the filter to the air conditioner becomes more and more restricted, requiring more and more electrical power to pull air through the filter. This loss of airflow also reduces the cooling performance of the central air conditioner, which also increases energy costs and wear and tear on the unit.

According to the California Air Resources Board, the standard central air system filters "remove less than 10% of the particles, ten microns or less in size, that reach the filter... (and) central air cleaners can cost on the order of $1000 to $3000, depending on the size and efficiency of the device." So called and real "HEPA" small-micron filters cost around $2000 (for the real thing), and like most more efficent filters, require more powerful fans and use more energy to pull air through the more tighter air flow surfaces.

These restricted air flows cause your central air conditioner unit to work harder, longer, and more expensively to push air through the filter. The air condtioner is also less efficient. This situation gets progressively worse as the filter begins to collect a surface dust layer which clogs up and further restricts air flow.

In effect, filters keep the bad stuff inside, building up on the filter into colonies of pathogens that your breathing air has to pass through over and over. It's kind of like pouring your drinking water into a glass...through a cloth you have been using to wipe up dust, dirt, and grime.

Also, the more that the filter restricts normal air flow, the more "leakage" there is as unfiltered air with unwanted substances is forcefully pulled through cracks and other openings around and thought faults in the filter itself... and in the home air distribution ducts themselves as leaks begin to develop and enlarge around taped connection points joining sections of air transfer ducting.

"Filtering" Vacuum Cleaners

The claim that you can control inside air contaminants by using
special vacuum cleaners - which can cost up to $2000 - does
not stand up to scientific tests. According to a British study, these units "send dust flying and feline allergen levels soaring."

"Senior investigator Dr. Adnan Custovic and his
colleagues found that allergen exposure was
3.7 times higher during vacuuming than before
the room was cleaned. The type of vacuum,
including those with HEPA filters, made no
difference."

"These particles are exceedingly small, (and)
remain in the air long after the vacuum has
been put away."

Vacuum cleaners making "air cleaning" claims are becoming big sellers. The problem is that it takes special testing equipment and expertise to check out such claims.

Fresh Air Blending or Dilution

"Adding some good stuff... doesn't remove the bad stuff!"

According to a government study in the State of
Washington, which now requires ventilation
systems in all new homes...
"Recent evaluations show that fewer than half
of the systems perform as they should--and
some perform so badly that they actually
make indoor air quality (IAQ) worse."

Another claimed fix for polluted inside air, is to dilute the interior contaminated air by drawing in some outside air through an air "blend" adaptation... which consist basically of a couple of holes through the wall which leaks in some outside air while leaking out some inside air. You can do something similar yourself by just cracking a couple of windows, letting some fresh air in one window and some inside air out the other.

The problem with this "dilute" solution is that the basic problem of contamination remains, only less so to some degree. It's like having a glass of polluted water, pouring some out, and putting some clean water back into the glass. Would you then drink it?

An upscale and expensive version of this dilution process is called a "heat exchanger". The main difference here is that the differences between the outside air temperature and inside air temperature is moderated by having the flows of outside air and inside air connected by metal fins which transmit some of the heat energy from one air stream to the other. The purpose is to save on heating or cooling the incoming outside air... but the differences in the outside and inside air needs to be large to be meaningful and help to offset the expense of the heat exchanger itself. These devices work best and better justify their complexity and expense more in cold climates, where freezing outside air coming in can be warmed up by the heated interior air going out.

Air Cleaning Gismos & Gadgets

TV and other advertising are hot on the pursuit of profits from selling so-called cures to bad inside air. These devices range from small air recirculation fans and filters, which sit on the floor or table... to "ozone" generators and other so-called electronic air purifiers. Some of these work to some degree or another, but many are rip-offs which do a disservice in that people think they are being protected from bad air in their homes... when they are not.

Floor or stand-up portable room type air cleaners, even when they do help clean air... only do it in a small area as the outgoing air circulates right back into the machine... basically flowing around in a small circle. Additionally, air from other rooms will continually "cross contaminate" the air in the room having the spot air cleaning device... unless similar units are placed throughout the building.

Ozone generators can claim to clean air, but the EPA states that...

"Available scientific evidence shows that,
at concentrations that do not exceed
public health standards, ozone is
generally ineffective in controlling
indoor air pollution."

Ionizers claim to charge airborne particles to cause the dust to stick to the surfaces in your home, such as drapes, walls, and table tops, where it can then be cleaned up. Clean up dirt by charging it so it sticks to your drapes? Does this make sense?

"Custom Designed" Systems

"Home cooking solutions - but does it work, and who can fix it?"

Some operators claim to - and some can to some degree - to be able to custom design and install a "fresh air" system or such solution for you. The answer appears to be "maybe".

According to a consumer report from the State of Washington...

"... recent evaluations show that fewer than half
of the (ventilation) systems perform as they
should--and some perform so badly that they
actually make indoor air quality (IAQ) worse."

The problem here is that with a so called "custom solution", you really don't know what you are getting - if it is really working - since the "solution" is not a uniform, production device that has to deliver consistence and proven performance.

The question also becomes how do you check it or fix it... if the person who designed and installed it is not available, for any number of reasons? Ever try to get a service contractor to "fix" an oddball system... without proper instructions, factory backup or parts. Even if you can do so ... hold on to your wallet and pray the "fix" really works! The best advice is to insist on a proven, production fresh air system, that can work with any standard air conditioning system!

Opening Windows...or Using Fans

The simple, straightforward solution to fresh air... or is it?

Opening and closing windows in sync with changing weather is a constant chore... and what about the dust and other stuff that comes in with the outside air, even rain? What about your home security, since an open window is an invitation to intruders and usually defeats security systems?

The biggest problem however, with "opening up"... is that air does not flow very well throughout the home, through windows. Unless the air has some type of push on it, it won't move much at all... and when it does it tends to flow in a straight line from one window to another. The air elsewhere in the home tends to just sit there, stagnating.

You can move air better with fans, particularily those mounted in windows or ceilings... but they are noisy, pull in dust, dirt, pollen and are practically impossible to seal against leakage. They too, also tend to pull air in straight lines from the open windows to the fans, leaving pockets of dead air throughout the home. Such "attic fans" also create negative pressures inside the building, pulling outside air through wall and ceiling cavities where the trapped air in these spaces - that can't be cleaned - has picked up and absorbed concentrations of harmful materials like pest waste products and the toxic chemicals used in building materials. This is the worst of bad air... really bad stuff to breath!!

The Best Solution!

The best way to move fresh air in and stale air out of your home, is with your existing central air duct-distribution system... which has been professionally designed to effectively move the air throughout your home. No air conditioning contractor wants to have home owners complaining about places in the home that do not get cooled or heated... or over cooled or over heated. This means even and balanced air distribution in every room.

The Natural Air System uses this ideal air distribution system, that you have already invested in, to do much more for you... to quickly and forcefully inject and spread fresh and clean filtered outside air throughout your home... and to extract the existing stale and stagnant air that does you so much harm.

And it's all done automatically -- just as you want it.
