INSIDE AIR QUALITY
-- Facts & Dangers --

DAMAGING YOUR HEALTH!

"Scary Air!"

Dust Mites... on the floating dust in your home
air by the thousands... passing their own waste
products into your INSIDE AIR 20 times a day...

Just a part of the "toxic soup" you are breathing in... inside!

HERE'S SOME SHOCKING FACTS...
from the experts... that you need to know!

"We are building houses that are going to be deadly."
K. Kileurn - Professor of Medicine at USC

An article in the Wall Street Journal on air quality states that
"an almost endless collection of highly allergic products have invaded our homes and we have sealed them in with deadly precision."

A Hometest METS Laboratories representative states that our dwellings "are perfect breeding grounds for mold" in that "our houses are so tight that when moisture gets in, it can't get out" and "that 40-50 percent of all houses leak" through construction flaws into areas hidden and inaccessable like behind walls.

The Federal EPA warns that indoor air contamination "is our number one environmental health problem." And that "the general population is exposed to unexpectedly high levels of carcinogenic substances in their homes" ...with some toxic levels inside the majority of homes... "greater than the levels that qualify as a chemical waste site for Superfund cleanup status..." and where for example "the carcinogen agent, benzene, was found to be three times higher indoors than outdoors... and that indoor levels of air pollutants surpassed outdoor levels whether the study's participants lived in the city, country, or suburbs."

The California EPA has indicated that our indoor environment is possibly "the forth leading cause of cancer."

Scientific American magazine states that "a baby crawling around on the floor breathes in the equivalent of four cigarettes a day of interior polluted air."

The Presidential & Congressional Commission On Risk Assessment reports that "...Indoor environmental pollution is one of the greatest risks to human health."

In a report from London, Professor Martin Hocking, a chemist and specialist in air quality reported that "Recycled air on board (airlines) allows viruses such as tuberculosis, influenza, and measles to spread more easily... and that the low oxygen content can cause passengers to faint or even contribute to the risk of death in very young infants."

A report in WebMD reports that "When you cough (inside) you can deposit up to a million viruses...(which) are stable in aerosol (air) so they're easy to transmit where there's recirculating air... (and) because it takes as few as 10 particles to infect the average person, an office can easily become a virus minefield."

Scientific American reports that... "...studies produced results that were disturbing: most citizens were very likely to have the greatest contact with potentially toxic pollutants not outside but inside the places they usually consider to be essentially unpolluted, such as homes, offices... The exposure arising from the sources normally targeted by environmental laws-- Super Fund sites... was negligible in comparison. If truckloads of dust with the same concentration of toxic chemicals as is found in most carpets were deposited outside, these locations would be considered hazardous-waste dumps. The chief sources appear to be ordinary consumer products, such as air fresheners and cleaning compounds, and various building materials. Could everyday items with which people happily share their homes truly be more of a threat to their health than industrial pollution, even for people whose communities are surrounded by factories? In short, the answer is yes."

T. Buckley, professor of environmental health sciences at John Hopkins's School of Public Health, states...

"On the order of 75 percent of our risk for carcinogens
comes from indoors."

HERE'S YOUR BOTTOM LINE...

YOU ARE USING YOUR LUNGS TO "FILTER" YOUR INSIDE
AIR OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES -- DIRECTLY INTO YOUR BODY!

AT THE RATE OF 240 GALLONS OF AIR PER HOUR!

Lung cancer is the #1 cause of cancer deaths.

Lungs contain 300 million air sacs with a sticky surface the size of a tennis court!

-- WITH THESE TYPES OF HEALTH RESULTS --

Day-To-Day Inside Air Exposures:

  • watery, burning, itching eyes
  • running nose
  • sneezing, coughing, throat irritations
  • stuffed up head, nose
  • headaches
  • colds, flu, or flu-like symptoms
  • nausea
  • dizziness, weakness
  • diarrhea or constipation
  • muscle or joint pain
  • skin problems
  • infections
  • fatigue
  • irritability

Consistant Inside Air Exposures:

  • out-of-breath problems
  • chronic fatigue
  • depression
  • difficulty concentrating
  • memory loss
  • pulmonary bleeding
  • seizures

Extended Inside Air Exposures:

  • respiratory failure
  • cancers
  • heart problems
  • nervous system failures
  • birth defects
  • permanent disability
  • premature death

(Note: The young, the elderly, and the less healthy are more vunerable.)

It's important to understand that indoor air quality effects on health and
well-being work insidiously, and most people don't know it is happening until the symptoms start showing up and then they start searching for a more immediate and more obvious connective-cause of their problem.

Cornell Universtity reported on this delayed effect in a research report on indoor air quality, which stated "Exposure to poor air quality usually does not result in a rapid, acute onset of symptoms; rather there are slow, subtle effects." Also, that people exposed (to poor inside air quality) often experience the subjective symptoms first (they don't "feel" good) and are frequently viewed as over-emotional or complainers.

What's going on...?

Here's our problem -- the fact is we were just not designed to breath the same air - over and over - in the closed up boxes we dwell in. Our respiration alone depletes air of energizing oxygen and replaces it with debilitating carbon dioxide, a deadly gas. We need air recharged with oxygen and purged of poisonous gases to be our best. Scientists have even discovered that our very skin "breathes in" oxygen, and has to have it for good health.

How does "air"... get into your home... now?

It basically comes through holes in your home... through cracks in the construction in the walls and along the foundation! This leakage occurs every time you turn on an exhaust fan, such as in a bathroom or the kitchen, or run your clothes dryer, which creates a negative pressure vacuum inside your home as it blows air from that inside area to the outside. This pulls in an equal amount of outside air - to make-up the air loss from the exhaust fan - through any openings the outside air can find that leads into your home. According to a report by Knight Ridder:

"More than 40 pounds of dust, molds, and
pollens can enter your home during a year.
Every ounce contains 42,000 dust mites."

Here's the problem with this -- The outside fresh air gets polluted as it passes through your wall sections into your home, which is where toxic air elements - like dust, dirt, insect wastes, molds, germs, and construction gasses - accumulate and then concentrate within these dead air sections that can't be cleaned. The worst construction cracks usually occur at the ground level, where gases from potent soil and lawn chemicals around the home also get drawn into your interior air... where you then breath them in, over and over. In a sense, your lungs end up helping to clean up toxic residues that have been conveyed from inside your walls into your inside air.

Is anything more important...than the air you breath?

Even the wise men of old recognized that indoor
air was a health hazzard... with instructions on
solving the problem even supplied by the Bible
in Leviticus 14:

14:39 If the mildew on the walls of the house has spread,
14:40 the priest must order that the stones from those areas
be removed.
14:41 Next the inside walls of the entire house must be
scraped thoroughly and the scrapings dumped in the
unclean place outside the town.
14:43 But if the mildew reappears after all these things,
14:44 the priest must return and inspect the house again.
If he sees that the affected areas have spread, the walls
are clearly contaminated with an infectious mildew,
and the house is defiled.
14:45 It must be torn down, and all its stones, timbers,
and plaster must be carried out of town to the place
designated as unclean.

Talk about history repeating itself... we now have homes and business buildings with "bad air" problems that are being
"torn down"... because insurance companies refuse to accept
the risks of people being in them... or that costs more to fix
than the properties are worth!

The important points are that our modern construction is much
more "air tight" than these 2000 year old "homes" -- which
caused sicknesses serious enough to destroy them -- and in
that we now also have many more sources of contaminants
that get dumped into our breathing air.

* * *

We all want to enjoy our homes, to be comfortable and feel safe and secure in them. We spend a lot of money and time to do this, buying such things as alarm systems and home theaters, etc. But what about the investment in the very air we are breathing while "enjoying" this inside space we have so carefully created and constructed for ourselves, our families, and our friends?
The basic fact is that while we can last for weeks without food or water... we can exist for only for a few minutes without good air. Nature's clean air is our most fundamental life-force... it literally fires and maintains our cells. Without this "clean fuel"... we don't function as well or hold up as well... as we could and should.
We have done a good job of cleaning up our outside air, so we tend to think if we keep a clean home, the air inside must be ok too. Actually, the more you clean the worse the inside air gets, since it stirs up dust and such into the air to be spread around by the central air system... and the cleaning agents themselves load up the trapped-in air inside your home with more and more toxic chemical residues.
Asthma cases have doubled, and death rates due to asthma have tripled since the introduction of energy-saving, tightly-built homes. Asthma has become a key problem indicator... leading to the recent research that has highlighted the existence of and the toxic effects of the inside air we are living in... breathing in.
Our lungs sponge up whatever is in the air. They have a surface area the size of a tennis court... designed specifically to attract and extract substances out of the air we breath - both the good and the bad. Toxic contaminants are absorbed directly into the body... with either immediate, intermediate, long term, or some combination thereof of harmful results... and in most cases, we don't even realize it is happening to us.

Is this why we often long for... "a breath of fresh air"?
Think about how many breaths we take in just a single minute, and how large that volume of air is... and it's easy to see how we can be damaged by the contaminants in our air. Each cubic foot of air in the average home contains around three million dust particles alone, not counting all the other contaminants. Much of this "dust" is cast off human skin, which becomes floating meals inhabited by toxin-releasing organisms like dust mites.
Most of us would not think of drinking contaminated water, with some spending up to $8.00 for a bottle of supposedly clean water... but we are just beginning to find out about what we have been breathing in our very own homes. We just don't see it... except when a shaft of sunlight comes through and we see all that stuff floating in our air... but that is just the visible part, a small fraction of what is actually there.
Here's a sampling of what's inside, "in the air", and it includes Toxins in the form of gases that attack our neurological system; Pathogens that cause destruction of body cells; and Allergens that directly attack the human immune system.
The agents include mold and fungi spores that float along in the air, along with bacteria, viruses, and microscopic creatures such as dust mites. Dust, dirt, pesticides, cleaners, pet residues, and gases such as formaldeydes, benzene, and ketones from buildings and furnishings all add into the witches brew of air attacks on you, your family, and good health.
Symptoms may show up immediately - such as watery, burning, or itching eyes, coughing, sneezing, etc. - or more so after you become sensitized by repeated exposures. Over time, you can suffer headaches, allergic reactions, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, throat irritation, stuffed up nose or sinuses, fatigue, diarrhea, muscle pain, dermatitis, infections, difficulty concentrating, colds, and flu or flu-like illnesses with chills, fevers, and muscle or joint aches. Over the longer term, exposure risks include debilitation or death from major health problems such as heart disease, cancer, respiratory failures... along with birth defects.
These are painful penalties indeed... to have to pay to live and work in your own air space!

What to Do?

"Cleaning" inside air of substances that harm your health is almost impossible to do... unless you duplicate all the expensive systems on a submarine or space ship. Even people in these artificial environments complain about "the air" and can't wait to get back to the real thing... nature's own real fresh air!

A Different Approach to the Problem!

The Natural Air System takes a different approach from all those devices that claim to help clean up inside air. We minimize the bad effects of trapped inside air by maximizing the good you get from having 100% flows of fresh air throughout your living spaces -- bringing in the good stuff to push out the bad stuff!

The Natural Air System does this all automatically, quickly bringing in fresh and filtered outside air as you want it... to flush out and replace the trapped-in stale, contaminated air. This way, you know you have the best air available, inside, as you desire.

Dust and other air-born contaminants are filtered out of the incoming air... to keep new pollutants from entering the home... and the dust and stuff that is inside is "vacuumed" right out of the house. Even your filters work longer and better... due to less in the air to clog them up.
